Campbell Todd farewell gig

We received this email from Neil Campbell and Stuart Todd about their farewell gig this coming Sunday.

Hi Folks,

As you may already know Campbell Todd have decided to call it a day. Our last gig will be at The Zanzibar in Liverpool this Saturday 26th April. The night is part of Olde Time Religion, a monthly event organised by the Great Northwestern Hoboes.

Neil and I have had some great times playing together over the years and we're really looking to playing for you one last time. We'll be playing as a band, featuring our engineer and friend Andy Fernihough on bass and of course Mark Brocklesby on drums. We'll be going on early around 8:30pm. Entry is £5 but there are many other bands on the bill. You can find out more on our myspace page.

www.myspace.com/campbelltodd

Would like to say thanks to everyone for their support over the years. If it makes anyone feel any better, we've not ruled out working together again in future but we need to try out different things. Neil will be continuing with the Neil Campbell Collective, while I'll be forming a new group.

The album 'Campbell Todd' is still selling in Zavvi on Clayton Square and online but we'll also be selling the CD at the gig for £5. Neil and I would also like to thank our engineer and friend Andy and Mark for their help and support, they've been true pros.

Farewell
Neil & Stu

We at Liverpool Acoustic were sad to hear that Campbell Todd was coming to an end, and we'd like to send our own best wishes to both Neil and Stu on their future projects.

Sad news from Jimmy Rae

This sad news just in from Jimmy Rae, via his mailing list.

I got a phone call just before 8 am today to tell me the very sad news that Robin Adams, our bass player died this morning. Rob had been ill in hospital for several weeks, bravely battling a seemingly endless series of complications resulting from a heart infection he has had for a couple of years.

Iain (Morton, my drummer) and I last visited Rob a couple of weeks ago when his condition had temprorarily improved although we were quite shocked to see how frail he looked. I think I'd resigned myself to the fact that he probably wouldn't be rejoining us for a very long time, if ever, but I never stopped believing we would make it out of there on his own two legs.

Sadly those hopes have now been dashed and I know I speak for all of us in the band when I say how much we will miss him. Rob was a fabulous bass player, a lovely, kind-hearted, giant of a guy who gave us many, many laughs. It says a lot about him that even though he only managed to play 5 gigs with us over the last 2 years, we all feel like we've lost a real friend. My heart goes out to his family and friends and particularly Benjy and Sammy, the two lovely children he leaves behind. Such sad news.

God bless you, big fella, and thank you for walking the fire with us.

Bye, bye, Acoustic Slice

Acoustic Slice, the weekly acoustic music night run by local singer/songwriter Alun Parry, is no more. This is what Al had to say on his the Slice's MySpace blog.

It may feel like the end of an era, but Acoustic Slice is no more. After two fantastic years, I have decided to call time on what was regarded as "by far the best music night in Liverpool."

I want to thank everybody who played Acoustic Slice either as a booked act or as a loyal open miker, or in many cases both.I am also very grateful to the many friends I have made on the music scene through Acoustic Slice. We'll keep in touch.

For artists who are booked onto Acoustic Slice already, don't worry. There will be a new music night at the same venue on a Monday night. It won't be Acoustic Slice but your bookings will be honoured. If you have any questions about Acoustic Slice's replacement then contact Ogo on www.myspace.com/ogosmusic

In the meantime, you can still catch me on my own myspace at www.myspace.com/parryal or on my website at www.parrysongs.co.uk where I will be continuing my own music with The Alun Parry Band.

Thanks for all your support, friends. No doubt there will be other Acoustic Slice projects in the near future.

Al 8-)

For those of you who maybe haven't come across Acoustic Slice before it was an acoustic music night run by Liverpool singer songwriter Alun Parry from 2006-2008 at Parr Street. Liverpool.com gave it the accolade of "by far the best acoustic night in Liverpool." It was a weekly night of quality booked acts and just under an hour of open mike. Each week featured top quality booked acoustic acts, many of whom included Acoustic Slice as one of their tour dates. As such, as well as top notch Scouse talent, the night featured acts from as far afield as Australia and the USA. It also featured a sister podcast aimed at promoting the guests at Acoustic Slice. You can hear its back catalogue of shows at Alun Parry's Acoustic Playtime Podcast Page
